The most important thing to understand about themes is that they are easy to change. That is the beauty of WordPress. So don’t spend too much time choosing your theme, if you find something you like better down the line, you can always swap it out.
You have two free options when it comes to choosing a theme:
StudioPress
StudioPress Themes are some of the best in the industry and I highly recommend them. You can find out more about them on this page.
Many of them are mobile responsive, which means they adaptive to the device they are being used on. They are also optimized for great SEO and are beautiful right out of the box. They are also intuitive to customize and you don’t need to know any code.
How to Select a StudioPress Theme:
- Go to StudioPress and click the blue Shop for Themes button.
- Select one of the themes on the page that appears.
- Put the name of the theme in your request form. Do not buy it.
The only caveat with this option is f you do have a problem, you will not be able to access their support services. You would either have to contact me or Google to find a solution to your problem on your own.
If you would prefer to have your own support account, you can buy your own copy of Genesis. (You can wait to do this-after you’ve tried out your theme and decided you like it or when an issue crops up or when your book starts selling like hotcakes!)
Free Themes
There are a lot of free WordPress themes available. Access the list by clicking here. The main issue with free themes is that they are hard to customize and often contain footers or attributions to the creator that you cannot remove. WordPress ships with the Twenty Eleven theme, which I find is easy to customize and use.
